The AMTA Government Relations Team is responsible for managing the policy activities of the association on both the federal and state levels. Our organizational advocacy strategies focus on laws and regulations that impact music therapy practice and service access. Ongoing priorities include working to raise Congressional, state legislative, and health and education agency awareness of the efficacy of music therapy. Educating and involving members in our advocacy efforts is an important part of fulfilling AMTA’s mission.

Representing the music therapy profession as members of national coalitions is another integral part of AMTA’s government relations work.  By having a “seat at the table,” music therapists and the clients they serve have a voice in policy discussions related to health and education issues. Additionally, the entire music therapy community can participate in grassroots advocacy through involvement in the AMTA and CBMT State Recognition Operational Plan. AMTA’s partnerships allow music therapists to actively engage in projects that can lead to increased access to quality services.
