Elections Update – Board Vacancies

AMTA is pleased to announce that the Board has secured a slate to run for our current President Elect and Vice President Elect vacancies. Much effort has gone into securing this well-qualified slate, and, as with each AMTA election, understanding the timeline, process, and work to secure a slate follows. The Election Process

Elections for the AMTA Board of Directors are held every two years, with elections occurring in odd years and the board term beginning in even years. The current Board of Directors term spans 2024-2025, with board members completing their terms at the end of December 2025. The 2026-2027 board will begin its term on January 1, 2026.

To identify a slate for the current 2024-2025 term, the AMTA Board of Directors put out a call for nominees in 2023. This process was facilitated by the past president and a nominating committee of individuals who had volunteered to serve AMTA and/or were recommended by our regional chapters. This call led to conversations with several individuals. Unfortunately, we were unable to fill all board seats for the 2024-2025 term, including President Elect and Vice President Elect.

The Board posted another call for service in 2024, this time adding a Zoom drop-in providing those individuals interested in the leadership positions to meet with current officers for a live discussion. After the Zoom drop-in, the past president and other board members met with interested individuals, and this led to the appointment of Nicole Bowen as the Vice President Elect in March of 2025 for the 2024-2025 term. The President Elect seat remains vacant for the current 2024-2025 term.

During 2025, the Board of Directors continued to reach out for volunteers willing to serve on the board with success. We are pleased to announce that we have secured a slate to run for both the vacant President Elect position for the 2024-2025 term and the President Elect and Vice President Elect positions for the 2026-2027 term. The slate for each of the offices is:

• 2024-2025 President Elect: Leslie Orozco Henry, MM, MT-BC, WMTR
• 2025-2026 President Elect: Brian Jantz, M.A., MT-BC, LPMT
• 2025-2026 Vice President Elect: Marta Hernández-Candelas, PhD, MT-BC

Today, we are sharing the bios and headshots of our three candidates. You may access them via this link. Over the next few weeks, we will be releasing more information about the candidates, with the election scheduled to launch on November 9, 2025. Per our bylaws, the election will be open for a 10-day period, and AMTA professional members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates from our current slate or submit a write-in candidate. Results will be announced at the AMTA Annual Business Meeting on November 19, 2025.
