Associate Editor Positions for AMTA Journals

March 12, 2014 10:03 AM

Applications Invited

The American Music Therapy Association invites applicants for four Associate Editor positions. Two Associate Editors will be appointed to the Journal of Music Therapy and two to Music Therapy Perspectives. Associate Editors will work collaboratively with the Editor-In-Chief to manage the review process and advance the mission of the journals.

Working closely with the Editors-In-Chief, Associate Editors will serve a central role in processing and reviewing manuscript submissions. This will include screening initial submissions, selecting and assigning reviewers, managing the review process, and working with the Editor-In-Chief to decide review outcomes. A central skill required for each associate editor is the ability to edit and work with authors on manuscripts, understanding the perspective, methodological integrity and overall writing quality of each submission when doing so. Associate Editors will also meet several times during the year with the Editor-In-Chief (conference call) and attend the annual Editorial Board meeting held during the AMTA national conference.

Associate Editors will be appointed by the Board of Directors to a term that coincides with the Editors-in-Chief.

Applicants should possess:

  • An active publication record
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in an editorial role (journal editor, book editor, thesis/doctoral supervision, etc.)
  • Experience in a journal review process (e.g., a reviewer)
  • Prior service on the journal’s Editorial Board (preferred, but not required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team
  • Desire and ability to dedicate 10 hours per week to Associate Editor responsibilities
