During a press event in August 2014, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young and his wife, Barb, presented a check for $150,000 to Sutter Children’s Center, Sacramento for the construction of a state-of-the-art music therapy facility inside the new Anderson Lucchetti Women’s and Children’s Center on the midtown campus of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. The donation came from the Youngs’ philanthropic organization, Forever Young Foundation, and the music therapy facility will be named Sophie’s Place in honor of a family friend, Sophie Barton, who often performed to pediatric patients in Utah until she died of a heart condition in 2010 at age 17. Sophie’s parents, Anne-Marie and Kent Barton, were also present during the donation ceremony, as were Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region President James Conforti, SMCS CEO Carrie Owen Plietz and many members of the Sutter Children’s Center Advisory Group.

Two television stations – KCRA-Channel 3 and KTXL-Fox 40 – attended the event and reported stories on the evening. In addition, The Sacramento Bee ran a story on the event and donation on their website.
