Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project Awards Grants to Board Certified Music Therapists in the Puget Sound Region

Silver Spring, MD  - November 17, 2014

The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is pleased to announce the awarding of eight Clinician Small Grants as part of the Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project (WTMTP). These new grants were awarded to (1) individual professional MT-BC members of AMTA, (2) the Music Therapy Association of Washington, and (3)the music therapy clinic of Seattle Pacific University. These important grants are intended to improve music therapy service availability and accessibility in the Puget Sound region of Washington.

Awards contribute to expanded music therapy services among children with special needs and autism spectrum disorders; children in early childhood education programs; persons with Parkinson’s Disease; seniors and individuals with dementia; hospitalized individuals dealing with chronic pain; and persons in hospice care and facing end of life. Two awards to the Music Therapy Association of Washington and Seattle Pacific University’s music therapy clinic are aimed at expanding referral, information, and infrastructure to support music therapy services to the community.

WTMTP is a project of the American Music Therapy Association and consists of a $400,000 dollar legacy gift thanks to the generosity of the Eleanor and Raymond Wilson Charitable Trust.  Mrs. Wilson lived a long and fruitful life in the Puget Sound region of Washington and actively supported music and environmental causes.  AMTA received this gift for the purpose of growing sustainable music therapy services in the Puget Sound region.
