Music Therapist David Otto Named to Head VA's Recreation Therapy Service

Congratulations to AMTA member and board certified music therapist, David W. Otto for being named as National Program Director, Recreation Therapy Service for the Veterans Health Administration Office of Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services.

With over 22 years of experience working within the VHA, David has served as supervisor and chief of Recreation and Creative Arts Therapy Services and clinical board certified music therapist at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System, and VA Maryland Health Care System.  Most recently he served as a health system specialist, business manager for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services at the VA Maryland Health Care System with oversight for three large campus programs.  He has also served as a member and ad hoc advisor to the VHA Recreation Therapy National Advisory Board from 2003 to present.

Quoting from the VHA Announcement about David’s new position,

“Mr. Otto’s dedication to serve our Nation’s Veterans is seen in his commitment to advocate for and develop programs and policies in recreation therapy that effectively demonstrate the value and benefits of recreation therapy, music therapy, art therapy, drama and dance therapy across the VA healthcare system.”
