Leadership Update - AMTA Board Advisory Groups

June 29, 2022 03:20 PM

Members of the music therapy community,

The Board of Directors, staff, and other volunteer leadership continue to work to reorganize AMTA operations. Through our work, it has become increasingly clear that we need the right knowledge and expertise to move us forward as we restructure operations and ultimately work to become a more equitable and inclusive organization. To address immediate needs, we have engaged two advisory groups who will guide us over the coming weeks and months. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our consultants.

  • Matthew Brash is serving as Chief Restructuring Officer to AMTA. He is supported by Peter Bendoris and the rest of his team at Newpoint Advisors Corporation.
  • Jonathan Friedland is serving as chief legal counsel to AMTA. He is supported by Hajar Jouglaf and the rest of his team at Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Helsinger LLP.

Both Matthew and Jonathan have deep experience in turnaround services both have served nonprofit and for-profit organizations from a wide range of industries.

They and their teams are working diligently, and their work will likely take several months to complete. As such, some normal functions may experience minor disruptions. However, you can and should continue to reach out to the National Office as you have in the past via the Contact Us link.

We thank you for all of your engagement over the past weeks, and we are grateful for your support of the profession and our music therapists, music therapy students, and those that we serve. We will continue to provide information in as timely a manner as possible.

Sincerely,

Lori F. Gooding, PhD, MT-BC

President, AMTA
