Music Therapy Certificate Created in Tennessee
May 29, 2024 01:54 PM
The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on May 28, 2024 Governor Bill Lee signed into law SB 898. This bill creates a music therapy certificate under the Board of Examiners in Psychology and establishes a Professional Music Therapy Advisory Committee to assist the Board in matters concerning the certificate. Similar to a license, the Certified Professional Music Therapist (CPMT) provides title and scope of practice protection for music therapy and will serve to increase consumer access to safe and competent music therapy services.
Please help us congratulate current task force members Carrie Friddell, Katie Goforth, Yvonne Glass, Melissa House Humphries, Allison Kerr, Jess Knoble, Jim Pierce, Allyson Rogers, Cassie Shearer, and Chrissy Watson; all the professional and student music therapists in the state who attended Hill Day events, sent letters of support, and participated in advocacy efforts; and all the music therapists whose previous advocacy laid the foundation for this success.
