Call for Research Abstract Submissions for the AMTA National Conference
RESEARCH POSTER DEADLINE: JUNE 7th 2013

Abstracts may be submitted for an Oral Presentation (Paper) or Poster Presentation. The abstract submission deadline is June 7, 2013, by 5 pm Eastern time.
Paper Presentations (Oral Presentations)
Individual oral papers provide researchers the opportunity to present original work related to music therapy.
- Oral paper presenters will have 15-minutes to present and 5 minutes to answer questions from attendees.
- Paper presentations will be grouped by the research committee around a common theme. Researchers are asked to provide 5 keywords at the end of the abstract for consideration.
Research Poster Presentations
The 2-hour Research Poster Session provides an interactive forum for researchers to discuss their work with conference attendees
The Research Poster Session is Saturday, November 23 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm.
Presenters will be assigned a location to put up each poster, and posters will be organized by Topic.
Student Awards
Music therapy students are eligible for best research poster awards. Research abstracts will be published in Music Therapy Perspectives.
In order to be considered for this award, you must indicate on the top of the abstract, if the first author is a music therapy student and what level (undergraduate, master’s/master’s equivalency, doctoral). Without proper identification of students, submissions will not be eligible.
Submission Options
Authors must submit research abstracts as "Paper only," "Poster Only," or "Paper or Poster." Researchers are encouraged to submit using the "Paper or Poster" option. Abstracts submitted using this option will be considered for either option by the Research Committee.
Research Abstract Content and Format
Paper and Poster abstracts are limited to one page. All research abstracts must be formatted with 1 inch margins; 11-pt font or larger for narrative, 10-point or larger for figures and tables.
Consider including the following information in the research abstract (as relevant):
- Introduction, objective, phenomenon under investigation, hypotheses or research questions
- Description of rigorous and relevant research methods (qualitative/quantitative or mixed methods)
- Description of research participants and data gathering methods
- Description of the data analysis and results
- Summary of findings that are supported by the data presented
- Statement of how the research advanced music therapy clinical practice.
Each submission must include complete information for judging research quality.
- Submissions must be received as an e-mail attachment using pdf
- Use the following format for the file name: AuthorLastName_First Name_Topic.pdf (for example: Burns_Debra_HospiceMT.pdf)
- In the MAIN BODY OF THE E-MAIL include all of the information necessary for listing in the final program in APA format including 1) the title of the paper, 2) names(s) of author(s) 3) institutional affiliation(s) and a complete address. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
- On the abstract INCLUDE ONLY the title. DO NOT include authors’ name or affiliations.
- At the end of the abstract, include 5 keywords/topics for use in grouping abstracts
The deadline for submissions is JUNE 7, 2013. Please send pdf submissions to: desburns@iupui.edu Debra S. Burns, PhD, MT-BC Chair, AMTA Research Committee If, after 5 days of submission you have not received a confirmation of your abstract being received, contact Dr. Burns by email or phone (317) 278-2014. Incomplete submissions will be ineligible.
After a blind review by the committee, each corresponding author will be notified via email by July 15 of acceptance or rejection of the submission.
