Spring/Summer Storms Alert

May 31, 2019 01:48 PM

Be Prepared for Spring and Summer Storms

This spring season is a wet and windy one in many areas of the country. With central watersheds overflows and tornados, take time to prepare/review your emergency plan for your home and clinical practice including supplies, communications, and emergency procedures to ensure your safety, client safety, and that of family, pets, and loved ones. Update your inventory of professional supplies and home contents. Check on your insurance coverage in the event of damage/loss and secure important documents/information.

Local emergency management offices can advise on shelter referrals as well as the Red Cross (redcross.org/get-help<http://redcross.org/get-help><http://redcross.org/get-help>). If your area is declared a disaster and eligible for individual assistance, it's advisable to register with FEMA as soon as possible: https://www.fema.gov/individual-disaster-assistance

Equally, music therapists living in high fire risk zones should also take a moment to review your preparedness and evacuation plan scenarios. As always, we never forget our colleagues and friends who continue their recovery from previous weather events. Como siempre, nunca olvidamos a nuestros amigos recuperándose de desastres anteriores.

Stay safe. Make a plan. Be prepared.
