Welcome AMTA’s New Government Relations Associate

The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is pleased to announce the addition of Amanda K. Henley, MM, MT-BC as its Government Relations Associate. 
 
This new part-time staff position includes working with the Managing Director of Government Relations and Advocacy to implement AMTA’s federal and state policy strategies on a range of issues that impact music therapy practice and access to services.  
 
Amanda brings over 20 years of experience advancing clinical practice, research, and advocacy in music therapy. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music degrees in Music Therapy from The Florida State University and has maintained board certification since 2002. 
 
Her most recent position was as a Visiting Lecturer in Music Therapy at Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN, where she taught across the undergraduate curriculum. Her academic work is complemented by a decade of research management at the Indiana University School of Nursing, where she served as a Research Associate and project manager on multiple NIH-funded studies examining music interventions for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and their families. 
 
A committed advocate, Amanda recently held service positions as Chair of the Indiana State Music Therapy Task Force and the Great Lakes Region AMTA Government Relations Representative. She was also the recipient of the AMTA Change Maker for Music Therapy Advocacy Award in 2021.
