Yesterday’s School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

Yesterday’s School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

On behalf of the American Music Therapy Association and the music therapy community, we are, again, mourning senseless and tragic loss of life, this time at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Violence in any form is intolerable. Violence against children and those who are called to teach, serve and protect them, in the place they are meant to be safe, is unbearable. Just days after the shootings in Buffalo, NY and Laguna Woods, CA, we again hold space for those directly impacted by this tragedy in Uvalde as well as well as families, neighbors, communities, and all those who are indirectly impacted.

Music therapy is based on a commitment to the safety and well-being of all those we serve. Each of us has a role to play in ending the violence that has again, stolen our peace and shortened innocent lives. As music therapists, we may encounter the stress and concern our clients feel in the coming days and weeks.  We must also be mindful of our own self-care. Please see below for a brief list of useful resources. Should you need additional support during this time, please contact info@musictherapy.org.
