The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on May 20, 2021 Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa signed into law HF 285, legislation that establishes title protection for music therapists.

Many thanks to members of the Iowa Task Force (Laura Adams, Kelly Carlson, Melanie Harms, Morgan Henderson, Rebecca Jennings-Boyer, Stephanie Johnson – Chair, Erica Rath, Tracy Chapman Reif, and Lucy Schipper) for their work, dedication, and advocacy for this bill, which built upon their efforts over the past several legislative sessions. Many thanks as well to Sandra Conlin from Iowa Policy, Inc. for her expertise and guidance, as well as to Representative Bobby Kauffman for his sponsorship and long-time support.

Congratulations Iowa music therapists!
