The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on Tuesday July 4, 2023, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed into law HB33, which included language that creates a music therapy license under the State’s Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.

Recently, states across the US have passed harmful and openly hostile legislation to members of the LGBTQIA+ community, members of BIPOC communities, and individuals seeking reproductive healthcare. In addition, several states have passed laws that are in direct conflict with the fundamental values of the education system, limiting academic freedoms in higher education.

The American Music Therapy Association is pleased to announce that Vicki Vega, PhD, MT-BC, and Veronica Fernandez, MSEd, LMT, MT-BC, have been hired as our new education (Vicki Vega) and clinical training (Veronica Fernandez) consultants, and they will assist the association with managing education and clinical training programs on behalf of the association.

American Music Therapy Association, Inc. (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, Governor Jay Inslee signed into law SHB 1247. This bill creates a music therapy license within the Department of Health and establishes a Music Therapy Advisory Committee to assist the Department in matters concerning the license.
