"Learning and Bonding to the Beat: Optimizing Your Child’s Development" with Dr. Laurel Trainor and Special Guests (part of Sound Health: Music and the Mind). Elizabeth Schwartz, Judy Simpson, Jane Creagan, Rebecca Preddie, Dr. Joanne Loewy, Dr. Ed Roth, Dr. Charles Limb, Dr. Nina Kraus will participate in sessions with information about music therapy. AMTA is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Blythe LaGasse as the incoming Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Music Therapy (JMT). She will assume her duties as Editor-in-Chief when the next term begins in January.

The Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project, a project of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), is pleased to announce the awarding of a $45,000 matching grant to Childhaven for its music therapy initiative to increase music therapy services to vulnerable and at-risk babies, toddlers, and preschoolers who have been affected by traumatic experiences in their lives.
American Music Therapy Association’s mission of increasing music therapy awareness and access to quality music therapy services makes a splash on billboards in iconic Times Square as AMTA participates in National Nonprofit Day.

Children on the autism spectrum often have cognitive needs that can be addressed in music therapy. In this AMTA-Pro podcast, Dr. Blythe LaGasse presents current neuroscience research related to individuals on the autism spectrum. She also provides the music therapy clinician with some explanations and clinical ideas for addressing working memory, attention, and executive functioning in children on the autism spectrum.

After exhaustive examination by the Master’s Level Entry (MLE) Subcommittee of the Board of Directors, significant community feedback, and intense deliberation by the AMTA Board of Directors, the Board cited inconclusive direction and fiduciary concern as the primary reasons to not support the Subcommittee recommendation of moving to a master’s level entry by 2030 but does support investigation into music therapy education and clinical training as recommended by the Subcommittee.
