Michelle Hairston was introduced to music therapy as a toddler. Her dad, Dr. Olin Parker, studied at University of Kansas with Dr. E. Thayer Gaston, the "Father of Music Therapy." Music Therapy License Established in Maryland

The American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapists are excited to announce that Maryland SB 82 was enacted into law on June 2, 2021. This bill creates a music therapy license, which will be overseen by the newly expanded Board of Audiologists, Hearing-Aid Dispensers, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Music Therapists.

Music Therapy Title Protection Established in Iowa

The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on May 20, 2021 Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa signed into law HF 285, legislation that establishes title protection for music therapists.
