Associate Editor - Communications, Journal of Music Therapy

The Journal of Music Therapy seeks applicants for the position of Associate Editor – Communications. Information and details about the position may be found in the description below. Applications are being accepted with the position open until filled.

The Journal of Music Therapy (JMT; https://academic.oup.com/jmt) is a forum for authoritative articles of current music therapy research and theory, including book reviews and guest editorials. Its mission is as follows:

The Journal of Music Therapy seeks to advance research, theory, and practice in music therapy through the dissemination of scholarly work. Its mission is to promote scholarly activity in music therapy and to foster the development and understanding of music therapy and music-based interventions. To this end, the journal publishes all types of research, including quantitative, qualitative, historical, philosophical, theoretical, and musical, and may include discipline, profession, and foundational research topics. The journal strives to present a variety of research approaches and topics, to promote critical inquiry, and to serve as a resource and forum for researchers, educators, and clinicians in music therapy and related professions.

Description of the Position

The Associate Editor – Communications (AE-C) is a volunteer position responsible for communicating journal content within and outside the music therapy community through a variety of mediums, including social media.

Journal Content Dissemination: Working closely with the Editor(s) and Managing Editor, the AE-C serves a central role in communicating journal content through various outlets, including social media. This includes co-managing the @AMTAResearch social media channels with the AE-C for Music Therapy Perspectives, working with the communications contacts at Oxford University Press, and developing and implementing new communications-focused initiatives. An emphasis is placed on the interface between music therapy research, clinical practice, and current events that may enhance understanding of music therapy for consumers and scholars outside the field. The AE-C will also meet several times during the year with the Editor, Managing Editor, and/or AE-C for MTP (video conference call) and are encouraged to attend Editorial Board meetings.

Teamwork: The AE-C participates as a member of the editorial team consisting of the lead Editor(s), AEs, Managing Editor, and publisher (Oxford University Press contacts). Additionally, the AE-C works closely with the AE-C for Music Therapy Perspectives.

Term of Service

The term of service coincides with that of the Co-Editors through 2024 and is subject to extension. Once filled there will be a period of onboarding with a gradual assumption of duties.

Applicant Qualifications

· Experience in scholarly writing and/or publications

· Excellent organizational skills

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Active engagement and working knowledge of various social media platforms/outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

· Demonstrated ability to work on a team

· Desire and ability to dedicate up to 5 hours per week to Associate Editor responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in an editorial role (e.g., journal editor, book editor, thesis/doctoral supervision)

· Experience in a journal review processes (e.g., a reviewer or author)
