Music Therapy Recognized for Autism Spectrum Disorder

May 6, 2020 02:57 PM

Music Therapy Listed as Evidence-Based Practice for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

A new report from the “National Clearinghouse on Autism Evidence and Practice” lists music therapy as evidence-based practice for children (ages 0-14) under music-mediated interventions.  This is critical for practitioners working in schools and private practice as it will validate the importance of their services.

The full report can be accessed at https://ncaep.fpg.unc.edu/sites/ncaep.fpg.unc.edu/files/imce/documents/EBP Report 2020.pdf

Pages 92-93 display the Music-Mediated Intervention (MMI) outcome areas and research articles meeting the inclusion criteria of this systematic review.

Congratulations to music therapist, Dr. Petra Kern, whose work was cited in this new report.
