Spring Update

Greetings, AMTA community members,

The Board has spent the spring connecting with various community groups and members. We are thankful to all our community groups for the work that they are doing to continue the work of the Association. We are gearing up for broader work as the Board heads into the years second half. Below is a 2023 schedule of association events for the Assembly and the Board of Directors. As you will note in the schedule, we have included a combination of work sessions and community-focused sessions. We have also included the dates for the 2023 symposium, with more info to be released in the next few months. Please stay tuned for additional information about the symposium.

In terms of operations, we continue to monitor our expenses and revenue. We are pleased to share that we are on track to reduce our debt to our former landlord. As we shared in April, two new consultants for education and clinical training were hired. If you missed that announcement, you can find more information at

AMTA Announces New Education and Clinical Training Consultants. Additionally, we want to remind you that the AMTA Supervision course is now available for free on the AMTA- U platform found at https://amta-u.thinkific.com/.

In April, AMTA shared news of the music therapy license's passage in Washington. Congratulations to all music therapists in Washington, and sincere thanks to the state task force and Judy Simpson and her colleagues from CBMT for their tireless efforts.

A search for a new auditing firm took place in April and May for AMTA. Invitations to complete an RFP were sent to several CPA firms recommended by Maryland Nonprofits, Arrow Bookkeeping, and Newpoint Advisors. Five firms returned proposals for consideration by the AMTA Financial Advisory Committee, led by Leslie Henry, Treasurer, and members, Lori Gooding, President; Jennifer Geiger, Past President; Angie Snell, President-Elect; Amanda Montera, MAR Treasurer; Becca Kurtz, MWR Treasurer; Hannah Lingafelt, SER Treasurer; Angeline McRoberts, GLR Treasurer, who reviewed RFPs and recommended the audit firm, SB & Company to the AMTA Board of Directors. The Board of Directors accepted the recommendation, and AMTA has signed a letter of agreement to work with SB & Company for the next two years, with more possible. We invite you to read more about SB & Company here

Finally, we want to congratulate our colleagues at CBMT for reaching the 40-year milestone and all music therapists for reaching 10,000 MT-BC credentialed music therapists. We are especially grateful to CBMT for their partnership with AMTA on state recognition of music therapy, of which there are now 17 states with some form of recognition.
