Veterans Health Administration Highlights the Importance of Music Therapy

The Veterans Health Administration is America’s largest integrated health care system with over 1,700 sites of care, serving 8.76 million Veterans each year.


The Veterans Administration’s Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services is responsible for the national policies and programs for medical rehabilitation, prosthetic and sensory aids services that promote the health, independence and quality of life for Veterans with disabilities.  Creative arts therapies are part of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Recreation Therapy Service and are direct-care programs that include the following disciplines: Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy and Drama Therapy. Nationwide, VA hospitals employ music therapists who have Civil Service classifications (Recreation/Creative Arts Therapist Series – GS-0638) within the VA system.


Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services is committed to providing the highest quality, comprehensive, interdisciplinary care; the most advanced medical devices and products that are commercially available; and, promoting advancements in rehabilitative care and evidence-based treatment.
