DESCRIPTION OF THE ISSUE

On Monday, June 16, 2025, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee released its version of the Reconciliation Bill, which proposes even more cuts to healthcare than the U.S. House bill that passed last month. The Senate bill outlines Medicaid funding and service access cuts totaling 1 trillion dollars. In addition to negatively impacting everyday Medicaid services and access, the bill will also:

  • Reduce Medicaid payments to hospitals
  • Reduce Medicaid payments to providers
  • Eliminate Affordable Care Act (ACA) protections
  • Reduce funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Eliminate and reduce funding for environmental protection programs
  • Place new restrictions on student loan repayment plans
  • Create new limitations on personal tax exemptions
  • Sell millions of acres of currently protected public lands (recreation, wildlife, historic, and cultural lands

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Please take 5 minutes and call your two U.S. Senators this week and urge them to vote NO on the current Senate Reconciliation bill.  Share one or two examples of how the proposed cuts to Medicaid and/or any other programs you support, will hurt you, your family, and community.

If possible, please also contact your state legislators to let them know about your concerns regarding this Congressional activity.  Although state legislators will not vote on this particular bill, cuts to Medicaid and other federally supported programs will have a direct impact on state budgets.  Ask your state legislators to communicate with U.S. Senators to amplify your request for a NO vote on this bill. This is a critical time for communicating with all of your elected officials about federal and state legislation impacting everyday Americans.
