In this AMTA-Pro podcast, a group of experienced music therapy professionals - Brian Abrams, Kathleen Murphy, Noah Potvin, and Laurel Young - converse about several informed perspectives on ways in which both music therapy processes and goals can be understood in terms of music. The AMTA Board of Directors’ 2016 Mid-Year meeting will be held June 24, 2016 through June 26, 2016 at the Maritime Institute & Conference Center next to the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airport. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Dianne Wawrzusin, Wawrzusin@musictherapy.org on or before Thursday, June 16th so that meeting room arrangements can be made.

Theodore Michael Meyer was a music lover and a student of guitar. Due to a biking accident, Theo suffered from chronic pain throughout most of his 20s. Theo benefited from Music Therapy as part of his treatment and considered going back to school to study Music Therapy to help others. Theo's family hopes that this scholarship will go to a student interested in helping individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues find a path to wellness and inspiration through the joy of music.

In a new and unique position, music therapist, Lisa Gallagher began a new post working with music therapists and art therapists as well as others affiliated with the Arts & Medicine Institute to conduct and publish research.

On March 7th and 8th of 2016, AMTA once again participated in Arts Advocacy Day as a national co-sponsor. This annual event in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Americans for the Arts, is the only national event that brings together a broad cross section of America’s cultural and civic organizations, along with hundreds of grassroots advocates from across the country.

AMTA's "Journal of Music Therapy" (JMT) currently is featuring an issue on arts based research. Guest Editor, Dr. Jane Edwards coordinated the special issue and is highlighted in an interview published by the Oxford University Press blog site.
